About Mymble & Co
About me
Although I have always loved teddy bears and have a small and dearly loved collection of my own, it wasn't until the summer of 2011 that I tried my hand at making them and immediately fell in love with the process.
With a background in vintage toy selling, doll tailoring and jewellery design, bear-making was the perfect next step for me, combining everything that I love to do. The founding of Mymble and Co followed shortly in the Autumn of 2011.
About the bears
My traditionally made mohair bears are designed to evoke memories of childhood companionship and are handsewn from nose to paw. These bears seem wise and old but are actually brand new. Remember the way that treasured childhood friend looked like when you first held him in your hands and you have the right idea.
I am especially influenced by my own childhood bear. A pudgy, medium sized, mohair bear with wisdom beyond his years and an endearing, happy expression.
Most of my creations are designed and made in South Wales although I love to take my bear making supplies with me wherever I go so look out for bears who were made in special places around the UK.
Methods and materials
All my bears are entirely handsewn using traditional methods that have been used for over 100 years. They have traditional cotter pin joints and are fully poseable. They are cut from the finest mohair using my own patterns and stuffed with excelsior (woodwool), glass beads and polyfibre. Their eyes are glass and their features sewn with colourful (and often vintage) embroidery thread.
They are made to last.
